View Full Version : Reason for splits?
Fly_Moe January 5th, 2005, 10:35 AM Probably a stupid question, but is there a reason to split up your lifting days? What I mean by that is why do arms one day, legs the next, then back, etc...? Is there an advantage to splitting up a work out routine and if so what's the advantage? Now, this might sound stupid, but I split up my work routines to upper body and lower body, since I lift only twice a week. I'm seeing good results doing this, but would it be better for me to target specific muscle groups in, let's say, a 3 or 4 day split? Would I see better results doing this? I'm in a cutting phase by the way. Thanks in advance for your responses.
reanimated838uk January 5th, 2005, 10:37 AM i say split for what works for you; if your current routine works, use it.. Don't stop good progress.
Reason im doing splits... its a change from full.
Work same muscles harder than full body...
Wont neglect certain muscles.
Gives muscles a longer rest period.

Not a stupid question at all.
For the drug free lifter a 2 day a week program can really bring home the results...go here and read why.

Total Strength (http://totalstrength.info/article5.htm)Are you doing this? I haven't read the whole thing yet but will later tonight. just 2 days in the gym would be nice (I can do cardio at home).
Banditfist January 6th, 2005, 11:28 PM When I first started I pretty much did a full upper body workout 3 times a week.
When I really grew, I was doing a 4 day split routine (working out 3 days in a row and then a day off). My workouts were up to 2 hours long. It was grueling, but I was young (and dumb).
I gradually moved into a one muscle group per day, once a week routine. I stayed strong, but started getting fat.
I have since moved back 4 day split, but keep my workouts to about an hour at most. I also started hitting the weights heavy again and I love it. So yeah, I am hitting each muscle more than once a week, but I know my body and it is responding the way I thought it would again.
daDUDE January 7th, 2005, 12:37 AM im young.. and i find even if im sore after my workout the 2nd day im back to normal.. and i feel bad if left that part of my body aline for the rest of the week. its not enough

Yeah, this is exactly what I do.
I started with John a few years back. Nothing else seemed to work...he put me on the path.
Before I was doing every routine imaginable...training like the drug filled crowd with nothing to show for my efforts. Sometimes, even after training
well and making decent progress...i myself get caught up
and somewhat brainwashed with all the bullshit out there....really , drug free training is way different than you think. :tu:
