As best as I can tell, the most important factor for fat loss is nutrition. Second, is weight lifting, and third is cardio. I tried for 6 months to lose fat without changing my diet -- I lost about a pound every month, and then when I moved and got my schedule all out-of-whack, I gained it back and more. Now, I've added good nutrition and I'm losing much faster -- about 1 to 1.5 pounds a week. I feel much better, too.
The best place to start thinking about good nutrition for fat loss is Marcus's post, I think. Check it out.

Also, keep us posted on your progress. I'm trying to get rid of belly fat, too. It's slow and steady, but my pants keep feeling looser. Yesterday, I was getting dressed for church, and I had to use a knife to cut another hole in my belt because my pants were falling off if I used the tightest of the original holes. That felt so good!

Should have started three months ago. But just for looks and a quickie. Drop calories to 1800. do your weights with minimum rest, use as much weight as possible.
End each workout with abs. Do slow crunchs 10 sec up, 5 secs down. 1 set of as many reps as possible. Do Vaccums, hold them for at least 30 sec, inreasing each session, for at many reps as possible. While driving or riding, hold stomach in. We want this to be a habit by 30th.
It is up to you, next time do it right. When you get back, build on this time.
