View Full Version : My math is wrong?

I just got a quick question here, I've been tracking everything I eat in a JohnStone-esque spread sheet in Excel for a few days now. It's been working out nicely but for some reason my numbers have not been adding up for my daily totals.

Here are my current stats for today (Please note this is not a whole day, only up till around noon so don't kill me!)

Calories Fat (Sat Fat) Carbs Protein

TOTALS 574 12 1.5 78 30.6
PERCENT 18.82% 54.36% 21.32%

If you add up those percentages you only get roughly 93%, I'm doing the same formula John did:
For fat: Total fat intake * 9 / Total Calorie intake
Carbs: Carbs * 4 / Calories
Protein: Protein * 4 / Calories

I got those numbers (9/4/4) from the nutrition guide and verified it with John's style sheet. So why isn't my stuff adding up?

I added up Johns total percentages and they always hit 100% so I have no clue what I'm doing wrong

Any help would be appreciated!

9/4/4 calories per gram is right. Now that means your error lies in total calories or grams. check your inputs. Confirm staurated fats handling.

Well I'm pretty sure everything is right in the addition department

I'm just doing SUM(x00:x00) for all the columns. Calories, Fat, protein, etc, they all add up. Saturated fat does not play a role in my percentage calculators. I'm only doing calculations on fat, carbs and protein like John did

So yeah, I'm at a loss here.
