View Full Version : To Bulk do I need to Cut first?

Hi everyone! First post here. :)

I'm a sprinter and ideally I want to look like Maurice Greene. Mo is the fastest man in the world and maybe if I had his physique maybe I would be as fast as him. ;)

Anyway, to achieve this physique I would need to bulk because at the moment I am fairly skinny (muscle wise). However, I do have quite a bit of body fat. I cannot see my abs and I'm guessing I'm probably at 15 % bf. I don't have a digi cam so I can't take a pic of myself but fat wise I think maybe I look like John in this pic:

Perhaps I'm little fatter but it wouldn't be by much. Haha. :rolleyes:

So basically I want to add muscle and I'm wondering if I should cut first, like John did, to about 10 % bf and then start a clean bulk OR should I just start hitting the weights hard now and eat lots, and cut later?

What would be more beneficial health wise and time wise or is there no difference?

you dont need to cut first, especially if you have little muscle mass. if you were to bulk you will lose fat, although slowly, since the added muscle will burn more calories. I would say do a clean bulk and then cut. Your BF% should end at around 12-13% when u finish the bulk
