Hello everyone,

I am 18, just ended my football career, and I have never been that concerned about my weight because I needed it for football ( I played tackle both ways, needed to be able to hold up). Well my team went to the state championship, i'm done playing football, and now I'm trying to get my weight down to about 200 from 250.

I've been reading here and at other sites a lot, and I think I've learned a lot, so here's my diet, tell me what you think:

7:30: Oatmeal

9:30: Bananna

11:30: Turkey or roast beef sandwich (wheat bread, 3 slices of meat)

1:30: Apple/pretzels

2:30-4:30: Lifting and running

4:45: Can of Tuna

6:30: Dinner, usually some sort of proteing, a vegetable, and a starch

9: Peanut butter and jelly sandwich/ or peanuts

Thanks in advance for anyone's help

im not the diet master... but i do know running before or after ur workout can put a damper on your muscle growth, adn the affects of your workout. if things were nice you would run 12 hours or more between each workout

I would say not eating enough.

I would agree, completely.

You're 18, a football player and a pretty big guy. You need to be eating A LOT more than that, at least to start. You should be looking to eat at least 2700 calories a day IMO. The running and lifting together is fine. You'll be told otherwise by many, but if it's your only option, stick to it. Personally, I'd do the running after the lifting for a number of reasons.

I can run at night if it's really important,

I use fitday and on this diet I usually come up to about 1800-2000 calories/day. I just did my BMR yesterday, and it came out to 2300.

I know that doesn't take activity into account, but I have a hard time believing that I burn 3200 calories a day, 900 from my activities (the 2700 you reccomend + the 500 defecit I'm trying to get)

thanks a lot for the responses

The 2300 calories would be if you sat in your bed all day and didn't move. (I also find that number to be slightly low.) If you take into account daily activity, then add a workout session AND cardio, I promise you, you are around 900 calories per day. This is of course assuming your cardio is at least 35-45 minutes and the workout session is intense.

Also realize, I suggested you start at 2700 calories. Once you get into the swing of things, you can lower it accordingly. However, 1800 calories for an 18 year old male who weighs 250 pounds is LBM suicide. It also will wear you down greatly after a while.

Well lets dot he stats out.

this was the formula I used yesterday to get 2300:

66 + (13.7 x 107) + (1.8 x 182) - (6.8 x 18)

Not sure if you're familiar with the formula, the 107 is for KG's, the 182 is my height, and 18 is my age.

I am also not 250 anymore, more like 235, I know that's not a big difference but it is some.

I firmly believe this, but NEVER eat a protein without a carb. They really do need each other. Now sometimes your carb maybe something really fiberous like green leafy veggies. Oh, and CUT out the PB&J sandwiched at night. bread ( I am guessing not whole wheat) with high fructose corn syrup jelly and some sugary peanut butter is not a good combo. Save it for a cheat meal or cheat day once a week. Hope this helps.
