Hey, im new to the forum and i think i should introduce myself.

Im 5'9½" (176cm) and weight about 142 (64.5kg) pounds right now. I've been lifting alot before i started thai-boxing and brazilian jiujitsu classes, and im getting into it again now.

I've done what many people on this forum did, i lost a lot of weight before i started to bulk. The difference is that i lost 14kg (31pounds) of muscle w/o loosing any fat.

I haven't eaten very good in half a year now (5 bags of chips a week, a lot of junk food, beer and eating in the middle of the night). I think i've averaged about atleast 3000 calories a day. I have a screwed up metabolism that doesn't allow me to gain weight that easy.

Well, im just getting started with bulking, and i bought both a scale with bioimpedance measuring and a digital fat caliper (fat-track gold).

My problem is: The scale gives me readings of 13% bodyfat, and the caliper (witch im new too, but i get fairly consistent readings) gives me values around 7% bodyfat.

Im guessing im somewhere in between, is that right, about what % do i have?

I'll see if i get the pic here :)

yeah I'd guess 10 or 11 percent...I have a bioimpedance scale and it tends to read 2 or 3 percent higher than I know I am.

Welcome to the forums. Can't say much about body fat % measures, don't use them, myself. I measure more by how I look and feel, it's more subjective, but makes a bigger difference for me.

Stick around, and keep us posted on your progress. Ready to bulk? Perhaps this picture can be your "before" picture.

I wish I could eat like that and look like that. I'm the opposite, I've been eating pretty clean, and look like I've been eating chips and drinking beer! :lol:

chips? i used to devour entire bags :)
havent eaten them in ages now.
I have 2 bags on the fridge from xmas, i love to look at them just sitting there in peace.
eating in the middle of the night was a trademark of mine, glad i lost that habit.
THOUGH, if you're bulking a midnight whey shake is not a bad thing.

Always wanted to do braz. jui-jitsu since i saw the gracies :P

Good Luck on your bulk!

Thanks, for your replies guys :)

@rubberbandman:
Yeah, that sounds fairly right, it gives me quite consistent reading though. Today it showed 14% again, yesterday 13%.

@Oranzith:
Thanks, yeah, my metabolism is crazy. Im one of those who cannot gain weight that easy, but i do loose it very easy. Sure it's good, but still it's also a big problem. Well, i will see what a diet of around 2500-3000kcal a day but not junkfood will give to me.

@williamso:
That's a good idea with the before picture. I think i will take some more maybe and save them. Not the was John Stone did though with everyday pics (He's inhuman ;)). Im also taking some myotape measures. Think i will start a new thread when i get started for real.

THat's all i had time for right now, work calls!

Here we go again!

@daDUDE:
Yeah, i lost a lot of muscle and ofcourse a lot of definition too. I think the look im after is that to gain my weight again w/o gaining (or cutting back too) any more in BF%. That means that i can add some fat during my bulk that i don't have to get rid of after it. But it's gonna take me more than a year though.

@rainbow:
Then you know what i talk about.. getting hungry in the middle of the night, opening a bag of chips and having a cold beer. A midnight whey-shake it will be. I work nights so i have a lot of midnight eating to do ;)

Yeah, BrazJitsu is great exercise, your muscle endurance really builds up. And it's fun as hell too! You should try it!

Thanks for the links, will look into them later!
