Will Power.

You can say what you want, the bottom line, you have to force yourself not to. I have never been overweight, and can eat (and used to eat) pretty much anything I want and maintain a decent body. However, I decided I wanted to lose every ounce of fat so I began an extremely strict diet about a month ago. Let's just say at first, I was "cheating" every day here and there. Now about a month later, I NEVER cheat. It has become habit to pass up cookies, chocolate, candy, etc. I honestly have no problems with it whatsoever anymore, but it wasn't easy.

It may be dumb, but I look at it like this:

Is the 10 seconds of satisfaction when eating the (insert junk food here) worth the extra hard work you have to do to take it off? To me, the answer is no. Within 5 seconds, the taste is gone, the fat however is not.

same as above :tucool:

before I thought about fitness, I always ate like crap and could still maintain about 150 lbs - but i was soft and outa shape with about 15-18% bf.
I could eat 2-3 choclate bars in a day with out even feeling it.

now that I am trying to "clean bulk" I am avoiding all that crap.
it was hard for the first couple weeks, but now if I have the occasional chocolate, 1/2 of a bar and I can feel the sugar hit me like a ton of bricks.
so now I don't even feel very tempted, and if I do, it takes a small amount to satisfy me.

just buckle in, and fight off the urges one at a time...

...it will get easier. :gl:

i think it does get easier with time, you just gotta keep it up!
like when i started sometimes i would have a few healthy snacks here and there, but it was ok cos my diet wasnt as good as it is now
but now i've got a very good diet, and i find it alot easier to avoid crap
i find writing out what im going to eat to be very effective, and sticking to that everyday

if you really have bad cravings, try to avoid looking at bad food, if you see it, just look at some healthy food, or walk away and go occupy yourself elsewhere

so i was wondering if any of you have been the same and if so how the hell did you stop eating it  I'm not like the other guys. I was never athletic. I was always a little tubby (still am!). I ate whatever I wanted and it showed. And I got tired of it. I went veggie (still am, sort of) and that was good mental preparation. My new diet is even easier because of the experience I have with that.

It's like a game: how many times can I tell myself "no."?

Eventually it's not a game, it's just who you are.

It's all in your mind. Your brain is a much larger and stronger organ than your stomach or your tonuge. You can get past this!

Best thing to do, dont buy crap food when you go grocery shopping. If you have good tasting food that is filling and keeps you satisfied, then you dont have to worry about junk food cravings.

Wow, those things look too good to be true.

Lisa, have you ever actual tried them? If so, what are they exactly? Actual candy or like a sucking candy?

Yes, I have tried them. I have a box next to me right now :)
They are these little round disks that look like sweet-tart candies, but they taste amazing!!! They sort of melt in your mouth, but not like hard candy, faster than that. They definitely take care of my constant sweet cravings

I asked because in an earlier thread about splenda you said " I love splenda". Artificial sweeteners that have that incredibly intense sweetness makes people crave that incredible intense sweetness. I just thought that might be why you have constant sweet cravings.....Just a thought

Hmmm, I think I had a sweet tooth long before artificial sweetners were even available, but I guess it's possible. Thank goodness for Splenda ;)

I personally know 3 people who have raised their kids with diet products. One kid is a diabetic and 2 are severely overweight. They both eat candy and sweets like its going out of style.

My mom ordered me some of those candies for Valentine's instead of chocolates. They are surprisingly good! I love the banana cream pie flavor.

In defense of chocolate... it can have some health benefits too, and since this isn't the Fat Loss forum I won't feel guilty about recommending it. ;)

Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, contains chemicals called flavonoids. These have been shown to block arterial damage caused by free radicals as well as inhibiting platelet aggregation which could cause a heart attack or stroke. Flavonoids are found in dark chocolate at four times the amount that is found in green tea so a little goes a long way. So help your heart and have a small piece of chocolate once in a while... :)

Ive been wanting to try choclate as a spice, not the sweetened kind. Ive seen it on food network mixed with hot chiles, and whatnot. I thought it sounded nasty, but if its not sweetened, might actually be really good.

Destiny and Karatetricker, I hope like them too! :D

I got mine on friday. They are very satisfying. The weird thing is I love all the flavors I wouldn't normally like such as peach cobbler and apple pie. I thought I would love the cheescake and mocha chocolate cake, but liked a lot of the others better. Overall they are all pretty good though. :)

Did you get yours yet Karatetricker? If so, what did you think of them?

Not yet, I assume tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. I'll post my thoughts as soon as they arrive.

I put an order in for some as well. I've been looking for something sweet to have that is low in calories, and I think I found it. Hopefully they don't taste like ass since I had to order $15 worth :D

I second the notion of getting the stuff out of the house. If you have sweets and chocolate at home you will think about it constantly. I keep sodas in the house so that I can have one for my weekend cheat meals, but I have to plan for it. I don't keep them cold and I hate using ice, so I have to put one in the fridge the night before so it's ready for my cheat meal. That "regulates" me. If I have candy, mints, chocolate around.... will power be damned. Throw that stuff out and replace it with things suggested above that will knock out the craving. Someone had a recipe for cottage cheese with Splenda and vanilla, which really does it for me. Makes a great dessert! I'm also a fan of Atkins mint wafer crisp bars. http://atkins.com/shop/products/Atkins_Endulge_Wafer_Crisp_Bar.html They're small and very tasty and much better for you nutritionally than the average candy bar.

Well, I finally got them. I honestly had expected them to be a lot bigger, but I guess I was not thinking straight. Anyway, I think they are quite good, just the taste doesn't last too long because of the size. Some taste a little off, but some are EXCELLENT!

My only concern (when ordering from "new" food places) is the nutrition facts. They say 1 serving has 4 carbs, but only 8 calories?! 4 carbs = 16 calories, so what's the deal here? Something doesn't add up, and it makes me wonder if that's the only "mistake".

The carbs are from sugar alcohols--only 2 calories per gram of sugar alcohol. Fiber is a carbohydrate that doesn't have any calories.

ON pro complex has like 32proteins/30carb (0 sugar )/4.5 fat..

it's not considered cheating now is it?

it can be a pretty good meal replacement

Interesting, I didn't know that about the carbs.

Well, I had a few more yesterday and they are really damn good! Only problem is the things are so small (like Spree's, candy size) that I could eat my whole order in one sitting, because they're addicting and small. But thanks for the link, definitely a nice treat.

I have a handy tip that I use for cravings.
I sometimes get notions for chocolate. Not often tho,
I find it kind of sickening. Anyway, sorry if this is gross but....

Chew it, taste it & spit it out!!!
That's the only solution if you want the taste but not the fat.

Also, this will leave a little tiny amount of residue in your mouth which you can quite hapilly swallow for that "satisfaction feeling." Won't do any harm.

As for the post above, that sounds like the first step to bulemia IMO. DO NOT DO THIS.

Personally, my cheats are 'protein bars'. I once bought like 10 on sale, and i ate like 4 in 1 10 min span  Now, whenever i go to the grocery store, i buy 1 , and eat half. Keeps me good.

You only do it for chocolate and cookies!!! :) Well I do anyway.

Did anyone else notice that the Sinfully Delicious box warns "excessive consumption may cause a laxative effect"? The night I got these I tried one of each flavor (12). My stomach was pretty upset later that night!! I have only had them one time since then, but I won't ever eat more than 4 in one sitting ever again. Oh well, I guess that just forces me to eat them in moderation!!
