Right, this is a good one. I'm sure there must be hundreds of guys out there wanting to know what we could look like at a certain bodyfat %, weight etc.

Therefore I ask this question...

All guys over 6'0" post your pics, giz the info, your weight, your bodyfat %, throw in a couple of measurements.... or at least post links to where your pics are!

All the best

Read your web page bro, nice changes you made and a massive prop to you for your personal progress considering the college accident!

I think I'm gonna keep a track on this and call it the "6'0"+ olympia" hehehe. With everyone being over 6'0" and similar weight values, it would be interesting to see how this plays....

Maybe I could put all these photos together in a contestant style line up for the judges... hehehehe

Thanks bro!

I'm a little over 6'1", and am workin on this body transformation from the other side of the spectrum. I have an ectomorphic body type, but have some body fat from just being inactive. I consider myself somewhat skinny-fat. Example, my wrists and ankles are 6.5" and 8.5" respectively, but I've got a little gut. Here's my stats:

weight: 184-188
bf%: 20-22
chest: 40.5
waist: 36
hips: 37
arms: 15 (added 1/2 inch in the past 3 weeks from max-ot)
forearm: 12

i have a hip problem which is doesn't allow me to do much cardio, so until i get that fixed, i'm just gonna be bulking.

I found John's site in September and, inspired both by him and by an earlier impressive transformation by my wife, Christina (she just joined here too), decided to get my act together.

I also have the ectomorphic body, so I've never really been terribly overweight. My goal is basically just to bulk up, gain strength, and eventually trim the fat down to the 10-12% range (I won't be trying any "cutting" until I've built some muscle, though.) I want to build strength throughout my body, but I've been using the bench press as my benchmark ... I reached my original goal of benching 100% of my body weight a couple months ago, so now I'm shooting for 150% (It will probably take a little longer for that one.) :)

Anyway, here are my photos ... not too dramatic, but I definitely feel better! I've added about 8 lbs. of body weight, an inch and a half to my chest, and 3/4 inch to my arms, and just by cutting out the junk from my diet, my body fat has dropped from the 15's to the 13's (using the calculator at HealthCentral.com). My routine is mostly weights, but I do cardio (HIIT on an old NordicTrac ski machine) a couple times a week.

Don't take it to heart teencraft! I'm sure you are aware that the taller fellows have a lot more mass to add on just to even look the same as the smaller fellas.

Stand me or a fellow tall person next to my good friend Andy Merrifield (who happens to be about 5'3", 5'4") and he is nearly 50lbs lighter than me yet he has an amazing body and very muscled physique. For those in the know Andy Merrifield is a bodybuilding champion (all natural) for Yorkshire where I live.

So there we go, the height thing unfortunately makes a difference. It's easier to gauge if there is a 'height class' :-)

I wouldn't mind knowing what your bodyfat % is. Reason being, I'm only 165 to 170lbs of lean mass. I would think your % is very low, between 5 and 8%.

Hi there, new here, and new to this whole "exercise thing"

Haven't got my pics yet, but I'm working on it, going to setup a blog like a lot of you here have done.

Some of my specs:

6'5"
260 lbs
Squat: at 630 on machine, could go higher but it wouldn't hold more weights, and I'm not doing free weights as far as legs are concerned cause of ACL injury..
Leg extensions: 220 lbs x 10 reps pretty easily
Leg Curls: 170 lbs x 10
Bench: 140 lbs :o (yes I know I stink at benching)
Curls: bout 100 lbs

Question, one of you mentioned "mesomorph" what is that?

Welcome, unlevel!

Question, one of you mentioned "mesomorph" what is that?
Ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph are three ways of classifying body types. From bodybuilding.com: "A Mesomorph has a naturally fit body but to maintain it or improve it they should exercise and diet correctly for their type."

Bodybuilding.com has some info and a "rate yourself" quiz here (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/becker3.htm). (Thanks to SCHTEEVIE for the link.)

Bodybuildingpro.com has more background and details (http://bodybuildingpro.com/bodytypeinformation.html).

The muscles on my arms would seem huge on someone shorter, but then I guess the fat on my gut would seem equally huge on him too. Swings and roundabouts...

Hey unlevel, I do sometimes find it hard to fit in to clothes (and not just because I'm a fat SOB)! I find trouble getting jeans in a long enough leg, and tops or shirts can be a pain because they have too small a chest to waist ratio (I have a large framed upper body), and the arms are often too short. And don't get me started on finding size thirteen shoes...

I got fairly lucky. My feet stopped at size 12.

I'm 6'5" (195cm) and am 114.3kg (251lbs) from 121.9kg (269) on New Year's morning.

I've always been just bigger than everyone else, I never had a big growth spurt, just was biggest in my class since age 4.

I luckily have few problems with clothes, except for coats and jackets, as they are usually too short in the arm. Very few off-the-peg jackets are anywhere near right, and it usually takes a 48-50 xxl jacket to fit. I had to get my 2 good suits made to measure (which I would heartily recommend by the way).

I find that the "ideal for weight height" charts are fairly unhelpful for me. Firstly many of them stop at 6'4". Next, the last time I was in shape, I was 95kg (209lbs), and virtually everyone I knew wanted me to put a bit of weight back on, as they felt I was too skinny. At that weight, my BMI was still in the 'overweight' bracket, so i pretty much disregard them now.

I tend to go with my impressions of my apperance, along with the fit of my clothes. To my shame, I have a pair of jeans that were comfy/snug over Christmas. Two years ago, while I was wearing trousers that fitted me well then, I was able to button the same pair of jeans over the top, and then take them off without unbuttoning the jeans.

I do find that I perform fairly poorly on strict gym lifts in comparison to some of my friends. My long arms have always been a disadvantage when it comes to bench press, and my squat totals are poor when compared to my leg-press, or quad extensions totals. However, when loading/unloading plates from bars, or generally moving weights around between sets, I have a much easier time than my friends. Also, the 2 people I'm talking about train with me at Ju-Jitsu (they're both black belts, I'm a purple belt [2 lower]). When I train directly alongside them, I'm easily as strong, and have a distinct advantage in wrestling and groundwork.

For some odd reason, I can deadlift loads more than I can squat.

Andrew.

Keep up the good work! :tu:

I saw that you were talking about bench just recently. Have you ever been thinking that because our arms are longer, we have to lift that wheigt a bit higher and therefore our amount of work to lift that thing is higher?

This means that those short folks have yet another thing that makes them look better! Not even is it easier to show that abs, but they can also impress by lifting heavier stuff easier!

Well anyhow, keep pumping! :db:

It's true that the taller individual will have trouble maintaining proper form on certain exercises than the shorter fellow. My Governor used to always talk about how at 6'3" or 6'4" (I can't remember how tall he was) it was more difficult to squat properly compared to Franco Columbo who was probably only about 5'8 or 5'9.

The problem comes up when the length of the limb is relatively longer than the width of the base compared to the 'ideal'. For powerlifting, you want a wide chest and wide hips + short arms and short legs.

If you're tall and ectomorphic, your upper arms will be parallel to the ground when the weight is several inches above the chest. If we had shorter arms, the result would be a bar that much closer to the chest.

When the arm angle becomes less than 90 degrees, the shoulder is no longer in a strong position and this is how people develop severe shoulder imbalances. The scalene group, which would be all the muscles that bring the shoulder forward, becomes extremely tight while the rhomboids and deep muscles in the upper back become too elastic. The result can be a forward head position, tight back, tight hamstrings, no scapular retraction, and poor balance and range of motion.

Most commonly afflicted is the tall skinny white guy. Of course there are exceptions to this. The tall guys you see playing Rugby or Pro Football(US) or in the World's Strongest Man competitions all have huge bones and joints and most are mesomorphs or trimmed down endomorphs.

Your key limitation in being huge is the size of your bones and joints. The advantage is, it's easier to have an 'asthetic' physique if you have thinner and longer limbs. But don't go expecting to be a squat champion.

As a warning, this post is probably not politically correct-it's just an observation.

For all the tall white guys out there:

It seems that the taller and whiter you are, the more stiff you are in the hamstrings, hips, and shoulders. Call it a taboo topic but I've observed over many years that the least flexible people are tall white guys, particularly the Scots and Irish. I'm 90% Irish and I'm the stiffest motherf%#er around. When I look at the average 50-60 year old male in this country, who is over 6 foot tall and white, they almost always carry themselves very badly-bad posture, walking with a slight limp, back problems, etc. It is becoming a real epidemic as more and more of us use computers all day.But when I go to Britain it's 100 times worse! The 40 year old men all have the bodies of 60 year olds! Their heads are all way out in front of their bodies and they seem to have this strange forward lean in order to walk around. My dad is the same height as me and is incredibly inflexible so I figure it's genetic.

I'm trying to figure out what to do about it. I've tried stretching but my flexibility never improves no matter how much I stretch. I think I may start taking yoga to help take care of this problem.

Any tall guys out there who've got the same problem?

If you think I'm using racial stereotypes, you're right. But then again, how many world class white sprinters or long jumpers are there? How about in pro basketball-the white guys are either shooters or they're lumbering giants with zero agility or hops. As they say, white men can't jump, right?

Sheepish

I walk around a bit like I've got my own personal head-wind, but for me it's just laziness. I have a clod-hopping stride... I use as little energy as possible in all my movements, walking included. It looks odd but I could happily keep up the same pace all day!

As for inflexibility, I wouldn't say that's a universal rule. I can still just about put my ankles behind my head, and I've never trained for flexibility... until a year or so ago I'd never trained at anything.

Also, to quote Mens Health (so no jumping up and down on me!! hehe!), "Yoga is the art of one thing only. It's the art of watching women in leotards.." :p

Again, just a short disclaimer: This poster doesn't necessarily agree with the views expressed in the post he has just written ;) I don't fancy walking out in to the alley behind my house one night to get kicked in the head by bloke with a suprisingly flexible leg ;)

I am a tall white guy and yes, I am very inflexible.

It has been improving since I've been stretching though. I try and do a 10 minute stretch routine when I get up each morning and before I go to bed each night. I have been doing this for a month or two now and my hamstrings are definitely more flexible now.

Who knows, in another couple of months I may even be able to touch my toes :)

I've been cutting for the past three months. I'm down 31 lbs so far, and probably have another 20 or so to lose. I certainly won't go below 240 lbs, since I wouldn't be feeling good being too small...

Anyway, flexibility is all in the stretching. Even though some has it naturally, you can stretch yourself to a more flexible body, given that you do it properly.

I'll post a pic of my back, that I took yesterday. I haven't done any exercise prior to this pic, and the lighting situation COULD be improved, but it's kinda good anyway. What I need to improve on my back is the width, mainly. Of course, I wouldn't mind an overall bigger back, but as far as I'm concerned, bigger wings would make my back look more proportional, and it would give me a fitter look overall if my upperbody was broader than it is now.

Hi everyone,

I'm 6'1" and currently weigh 189 lbs. I wear size 16" 34/35 shirts, and 34" or 36" pants (smaller jeans, larger dress pants... don't know why... that's just how they fit for me.) My chest measurement is currently 42.5"

When I was a teenager I got really fat, all the way up to 300 lbs. At that time I wore size 48" and 50" waist pants.

I lost the weight in 1981-82, getting down to 179 lbs. I lost the weight by watching what I ate. After losing it, I started walking for exercise, doing 3 miles a day at first, and then increasing that to 6 miles per day.

During the early 1990s I put on about 30 lbs of "bad" weight. In 1997-98 I decided that it was time to get back in shape, so I again started watching my diet and walking consistently. by Fall, 1998 I got down to 175 lbs. Unfortunately, I came down with pneumonia around Thanksgiving time and dropped 15 more pounds, which put me at 160 lbs, definitely too light for my height. After recovering from that, my weight eventually stabilized at 171-173 pounds, and it was at this weight that I began weightlifting in February 2002.

Here's a couple of pictures I took after a year of weightlifting. During this time I was still doing a lot of walking and running; anywhere from 24-42 miles per week. I learned later that I was working against myself!

http://mysite.verizon.net/res1yjl7/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/jan252003.jpg

http://mysite.verizon.net/res1yjl7/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/backjan282003.jpg

Anyway, I experimented with "bulking" last year in the spring, but I wasn't too picky with my food choices, and as a result gained too much bodyfat. I got up to 197-201 lbs, but felt fat.

After "cutting" all last summer (I went slowly, attempting to preserve muscle) my weight got back down to 179-182 lbs. I maintained at this weight for several months, continuing to lift weights and do a lesser amount of walking/running (about 20-25 miles per week).

After noticing some loss of strength and not seeing any muscle growth I decided to try "bulking" again, but this time I would do NO cardio, and eliminate refined sugar and flour from my diet. This was the end of January of this year. So far I've been pleased with the results. My bodyweight has remained pretty stable in the 184-189 lbs range, and I've gained strength with each weightlifting workout, as well as seen some muscle growth. I'm planning to continue with this until the end of May, at which time I will re-incorporate some walking/running into my routine (just because I enjoy it!)

Even though I'm currently not doing any "official" cardio, I do a fair amount of walking and stair-climbing through the week with my job, and being enrolled for a couple of classes at a nearby university.

Here are a couple of pictures I took a couple of weeks ago, halfway through my current "bulk."

I thought Id add my stats here.

Age 22
Height 6ft 2in
Weight 262 lbs down from 287
Waist 38"
Chest 46"
Shoe Size UK 12
Shirt Size 17 1/2

From everyone elses posts I think im a really weird shape ! 260 pounds and 38" waist - must mean that I have a lot of muscle underneath, weird though as I have never really tried to build muscle my entire life. I have always been very Big and strong though I played Rugby to a high standard until the age of 19.

I am now trying to cut all the fat from my body, my guage says 25% bf now but its an electronic one and Im not really sure how accurate that is. I am really going on photos really.

Im eating about 1800 calories a day at present and training. My routine right now is

Monday to friday

30 minutes cardio on the cross country ski machine. Burn approx 600 Calories according to meter.

1000 metre row in about 4 mins

Monday Upper body

Wed Legs

Fri abs and rest.

Then weekend I do whatever feels good, I normally dont miss the 30 mins cardio at all though.
