Well i'm mentally drained at this point.. has taken me about 15 months of dieting to get to where I am now. Started at 216 lbs. in Sept. of 2003 now I'm 177. The problem is I've been 177 since october. My diet philosophy started by just cleaning up my diet (lean meat, quality carbs.) When I stalled at 190. I decided to start counting calories first I tried 2400 per day ... didn't lose an ounce! then I tried 2000 to 2200 cals per day which got me to 177. I have BF calipers which say I'm at about 13%, my waist went from 38.5 to 34.5 and in general I look and feel good. However I know I can get a lower BF% my original goal was 10% BF. So I'm pretty frustrated that I'm still trying to cut down when I've been looking forward to eating a bit more and hitting the weights hard. I don't want quit I want to finish what I've started. So what I'm thinking about trying is 10xBody weight so about 1700 calories per day. Any thoughts about this number? Also is it possible that my body is tired of this fat loss thing? or will my body continue to respond with the lastest calorie deficit that I'm considering?

What kind of excercise do you do now, and what does your diet look like, besides the number of calories? 1700 sounds low, I bet that you could tweak some other things to get your body fat down. Also, do you add in a cheat each week? I found that adding in a planned cheat meal once a week actually helped me out. Give us more details!

How often do you do cardio? Can you post a sample diet? How often do you have cheat meals? Have you been eating the same foods during your loss or do you change them up? I think the 10x bodyweight is too low honestly. I tried it myself last year and although I got down to my lowest weight in years, 172lbs, I realized I lost way too much muscle for my liking.

I think what he means is he's been paying attention to what he eats for 15 months. Since you should always be paying attention to what you eat, then that's not much time at all.

Keep it up, try something different!

Mmmm, I'm afraid not since his actual words are:

"has taken me about 15 months of dieting to get to where I am now."

So, he means what he says, he's been dieting for about 15 months straight.

Pretty straightforward there.

Not to speak for him but he said that he was just eating clean at first. Then at about 190 started dieting or "counting calories" I think most people consider the counting calories as dieting and the eating clean a lifestyle or just healthy. That is the way I read it anyway.

Does it really matter?

Man, I just go by what HE said, not how it's interpreted. Regardless, he used a 15 month time-frame as a period of time in which to greatly improve, and he is frustrated at what has come of it.

So, actual "diet" or not, some process has been taking place for 15 months, and the end result is one that is frustrating to him.

There, for the politically correct folk..............................:tu:

Alright, please knock off the bickering over semantics.

Those who don't have useful information for this gentleman should refrain from cluttering up his thread with pointless posts.

If you want to argue then do it somewhere else.

1).Try cardio in the morning
2) Try a new lifting plan
3) Try moving around your meal times and micronutrient %'s

See what your body does maybe you need more workouts with more calories to fuel muscle growth and fat loss?

Good Luck,

My diet is basically 5-6 meals per day:

I eat combos of

oatmeal or whole wheat toast with egg whites
oatmeal with chicken breast or lean ground beef
Lean ham sandwhich made with whole wheat bread
sometimes I eat tuna, sardines or steak

In general I eat the same carb/protein that are always discussed on these boards.

I drink coffee with half and half, about 8 tablespoons per day (of half and half) which is about 160 calories, I use splenda to sweeten it.

water? about 64 ounces per day

exercise -- I play basketball 2 or 3 times per week for anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes , as for weights I've been doing a push/pull style workout exercises include squats, Deadlift, Bench, T-bar row, Curls, Military press, upright row. 2 to 3 sets of each to failure.

ok.... when I first started dieting back in sept. 2003 I tried 2400 calories ( this was based on 2700 maint.) I also was doing 2 30-40 minute cardio session ....... per day 6 days per week. I did this for 2 weeks and didn't lose anything.. so I decided cardio was for the birds... cut it back to 2 or 3 days of basketball. So I guess I could bump up the cardio to 4 or 5 days per week 30 minutes or so.. Leave the calories at around 1800 to 2000 and see where it gets me....

I've always been the exercise guy in my family however my body hasn't backed that up. Many of the adults ( I'm 33) in my family are obese. I've wanted to help them but felt like It was pretty hypocritical for me to preach about health and excersise when I'm fat too. So I did something about (losing 39 lbs). My sister use to tell me that I was meant to be big... I didn't buy it.... her and my brother love to give me crap about the food I eat egg whites... oatmeal with no milk or brown sugar! they think I have no taste! but I'd rather be healthy and look great then eat brown sugar or crap loads of butter with my eggs. So I'll try increasing cardio somewhat and stick to my current diet see what I can make happen... I really don't want to cut carbs out completely or something drastic like that ..but I will if I have to....
