Hi,
I looked at the nutritional information of quakers oatmeal (original, nothign added). It states that there are 1100 calories per serving, can this be right? I'm supposed to have no less than 1300 and no more than 1800 calories for cutting. I read many times that oatmeal is very good for breakfast. What should I do? Eat oatmeal for breakfast and eat only an additional 200 calories for the rest of the day? I also have to take into account that I'm 16, my doctor said that because I'm still developing I should not take any diets. What do you guys think?

dodgy oatmeal you have there... 1100cals... blimey.
Oatmeal ive seen has per serving (with semiskimmed milk) about 200-300 cals.

>1300 and <1800 calories is far to low for cutting, and even more so if your still a teen. 1800 should be the lowest an average male should ever go to.

I have my big tube of Quaker oats here and it says 1/2 cup (dry) is 150 calories. 1/2 cup cooks up to a pretty good size serving with water.

I think you might have read it wrong, or maybe it was misprinted where you read it. According to the Quaker Oatmal website, one serving (half a cup) is 150 calories -- 27g Carbs (4g fiber), 5g Protien, 3g fat. I commonly have two servings for Breakast along with a scoop of whey protien.

I cannot speak authoritatively to the "still developing" question, but I would guess that your doctor is right. But I doubt that he means you should not be on any diet. I work at a hospital and I've never known a doctor to advise anyone not to eat healthy. A diet is just a plan for eating. John Stone has been on a diet for the last several months where his goal is to gain weight. That's a good diet for him right now. Soon, he'll be on a diet to lose weight. That's good, too. But he's educated himself and knows what is healthy for his body. If you're still growing, you'll need to take that into consideration when you plan your diet. What do you want to accomlish? What goals have you set for yourself? Where would you like to be in 6 months? a year? Answer these questions -- then you'll have an idea of how to plan your diet to accomplish your goals. However, I would think that oatmeal can be a good part of just about any healthy diet. I think it is great.

I agree, this is far too low for a growing male. You'll start losing muscle and your metabolism will go down -- that's the opposite of what you want to do. Check out the sticky at the top of the Fat Loss section, Marcus has a great post (rather long) that really explains what nutrition looks like for cutting. I'm assuming this is what you want to do, right?

Nope, out here in the US we just generally use calories! :) I eat .75 cup of oats (dry measure) for breakfast and it's 225 calories (not counting the whey I put in after cooking).
