View Full Version : Smarties for PWO?
Tanis6909 Tue, December 28th, 2004, 11:03 AM I've heard all the talk about dextrose intake post workout, and have had success with such a "sugar-spike" in the past...it was called Accelerade, you just mixed it with water and chugged it after your last set...really did seem to make me recover faster, but it was hella expensive. recently, i got a bag of like 100 rolls of smarties for $1, which is awesome, because i love smarties :D
anywho, each roll has 6g of sugar in them...without checking the post i found it in, i believe SC said you shoot for a 2:1 ratio of carbs/protien post-workout...this would mean i'd have to eat like 9 rolls of smarties after each workout...is this correct? i mean, i like the little guys and all, but just thinking about eating that much sugar every other day makes my teeth hurt...
any thoughts on the subject would be great. I know others here are smarties eaters, i just dont know how many to suck down.
Bluestreak Tue, December 28th, 2004, 11:41 AM I've read about many people have used Smarties to create the PWO insulin spike. Personally, I prefer it in one neat package; I got the Kent Nutrition dextrose and mix it with my protein for an easy, RTD shake I can drink slowly on the drive home from the gym. 2:1 seems to be the oft-mentioned guideline, however, I have used 1.5:1 and seen acceptable results over time. 2:1 is just too sweet when mixing dextrose into a shake.

Acliff Tue, December 28th, 2004, 12:23 PM I always thought smarties had chocolate in them... with a sugar coating.
I assume the 'smarties' in america are different, as there is no chance that you'll be able to get 100 tubes for anything less than 10 quid in england.
Andy Tue, December 28th, 2004, 02:28 PM Ok, about how many smarties for a 200 pound guy?
Do i also have a couple scoops of whey with water?
And this is just for lifting days or cardio days also?

It's only for after a weight training workout.
Your amounts are dependent upon the rest of your dietary plan of attack.

maybe this will give you an idea...
I'm 165lbs, 5'10" and I have 6 rolls (dont know where 9 came from...silly Tanis and his bad math) for 36g carbs along with my protien shake (1 scoop GMC something-or-other, nasty-ass-tasting powder) for 20g protien. it seems to work, as since i started doing it i've been able to recover faster and seem to be less sore the next day. I havent changed anything else about my workouts, so the only thing i can think of is the smarties..."little fancy colorful circles of dextrose"

Aha it all makes sense now.
Fitness experts avocating the consumption of chocolate after a workout??!? I knew it was too good to be true.
