ok...I'm 185, so I understand that I will take 1850 calories daily, of course, until I lose weight.

I've got all the nutritional values of my foods listed down. I figured I would start first with protein and I add certain foods until I reach 185g, likewise with carbs (185) and fat(41). I've reached 180g of protein, around 130-40 of carbs, and under 15 of fat. But the calorie intake is around 1400. I'm pretty sure that if I tried to reach 185 for both protein and carbs that I would still not reach 1850 calories. Let's say I do reach 185 protein, 185 carbs, and less than 20% of fat but I still am at 1600-1700 calories. How close to 1850 calories do I have to go without going past 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat? Can I still reach 1850 but go past 185g protein, 185g carbs, and 41g of fat?

I don't have my notes with me right now. I'd only be able to post it tommorow.

Besides, all I need answer is

"How close to 1850 calories do I have to go without going past 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat? Can I still reach 1850 but go past 185g protein, 185g carbs, and 41g of fat?"

From what I've learned on here, it's not necessarily the exact number of grams you take in, but that it falls within the 40/40/20 split. In fact, if you are doing cardio and weight training, you could safely take in a little more protein and carbs.

As far as the calories are concerned, it's all about creating a deficit. You have to figure out your BMR (base metabolic rate) and AMR (active metabolic rate) to see what range you should stay in depending on your goals. A great site to go to is http://www.room42.com/nutrition/basal.shtml...another forum member posted this and it has helped a lot.

Hope that gives you the info you needed!

what do you mean falls within in the 40/40/20 split? Isn't reaching the total grams of protein, carbs, and fat falling "withing the 40/40/20 split"?

Yeah - that's what I meant...sorry.

1850*.4 = 740 /4 = 185 G Carb
1850*.4 = 740/4 = 185 G Protein
1850*.2 = 370/9 = 41 G Fat

So if you eat these ratios it will come out to 1850, give or take a bit for descrepencies in nutritional labeling.
