View Full Version : John and creatine
tankhead Wed, December 22nd, 2004, 01:04 PM Just curious if you guys stay on creatine when you cut. My face puffs up on creatine and I look like I am fat. Which is fine when I am bulking (like now) but when I cut the calories and riding season starts to pick up I usually stop. What say you? tanks

No, it isn't a cutting supplement.
LarryNC Wed, December 22nd, 2004, 07:31 PM I thought creatine helped in cutting, helping to raise lean mass percentage therefor losing body fat mass percentage...?
JoeBiron Wed, December 22nd, 2004, 09:57 PM My understanding is that creatine monohydrate can lead to subcutaneous water retention, which explains your puffy face condition. I have been using Sann V12 which is tri-creatine malate, and have noticed no water retention issues, and certain no puffy face.
Creatine helps supply a phosphate molecule to ADP to help it become ATP (aka cell energy) so that you can have longer, more effective training sessions, and therefore become more efficient at overloading the muscle.
There are different delivery mechanisms for creatine, the creatine monohydrate solution being very cost effiective and popular. There seems to be no reason to think of any form of creatine supplement as being counter-productive to a "cutting" phase however. If monohydrate does cause subcutaneous water retention for you, I'm sure this effect is transient, and it is after all only water.
Try the tricreatine malate formula though. It may ease the problem. It is a bit more expense, however.
tankhead Thu, December 23rd, 2004, 12:38 PM Yes I know all of this guys, thanks though, I was just curious if John was going to stay on it during his up coming cut. I only use it for bulking because even when I cut on it I keep the moon face somewhat. I also remember John not thinking he was a responder to creatine, I wonder how he feels about it now? Nice job with the bulk John. How is the S2000? Thread drift sorry.

I've been back and forth on whether or not I'll use creatine while cutting. Right now I'm leaning towards "no".
I did say once before that I felt it didn't do anything for me during my last bulk, but this time around I think it helped some. I'll continue to use it for my future bulks for sure.
How's the S2000? In a word: nimble. ;)
