ive searched the fourm and the net for a dummys guide to HIIT You haven't searched hard enough.

I don't intend to be rude, but that's clearly fact since a simple search for HIIT cardio ('http://www.google.com/search?q=HIIT+cardio&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8') on google will give you tons of information.

Go play ('http://www.musclemedia.com/training/hiit.asp') :)

You should do some med intensity cardio the first few days to get your body going...

Get ready to work that heart :p

Yeah, dont start HIIT straight away if your not used to cardiovasular work. If it was me I'd do continuous training (eg. 20min jog) for 3-4 weeks just to prepare. Its always best to be safe IMO.

I don't think you have to be really precise when doing HIT. Here's what I like to do:

Warmup 5 minutes
Two minutes really really hard, Two minutes steady to recover. Repeat several times, pushing harder each time I go hard. Quit when I've gone through 3-6 cycles. There's your dummies guide.

It's just interval training-swimmers and sprinters have always done it
