A quick question for everybody - what the HECK are egg beaters? I've seen them on John's nutritional data almost every day for well over half a year now. What are they, please?

I can't stand eggs. It's quite possibly the only healthy food I don't like. I can only stomach it when made as an omelette with mixed herbs, sliced mushrooms, chopped onion, ham slices and low fat cheese melted on it. Unfortunately this meal takes a fairly long time to prepare (15-20 minutes) and I'm usually in a great hurry in the morning, not to mention the fact that it leaves lots of dirty dishes.

So back to the question - what are egg beaters? Are they some kind of pre-made egg product that is only available in the US? Can they be made from eggs by anyone?

Thanks in advance! :)

it is a brand name for an egg product has removed the yolk and comes in cartons.
generally it is a 500ml carton that is equal to 5 eggs.

have a look for the comperable product in your local stores.
in canada we have a product called "breakfree".

you wil like this type of product - they are perfect for making omelettes with!

Egg beaters are great but can be expensive since it takes at least half a carton to get a nice portion of eggs(1cup) They are completely cholesterol free and fat free. They add some "additives" to them so they appear and taste similar to whole egg. Basically, they are 99% egg white and pretty healthy. Plus, they are homegenized so you can put them raw in a protein shake or whatever.

If you have a wholesale club like Costco available to you, buy them there. Costco sells an 8 pack of cartons for like 6 bucks I think. If you buy them at the regular grocery store its like 2.50 a carton for name brand!

Egg Beaters has a "Garden Vegetable" flavor that is great for making omelettes. They also have a "Southwestern," but I didn't care for that one too much.
