I have about 10-15 lbs max that I would like to drop in the next two months. I am built pretty solid and have very broad shoulders and am muscular overall. I would like to lose the "extra" lbs. to trim up and get rid of the thin layer over my abs and what is left of love handles. Should I attack this through strict cardio sessions over the next months with no weight lifting involved? I have heard conflicting stories that before you start lifting to bulk up or if you are already bulky but you want to TRIM up you should just do a lot of cardio and small amounts if any of lifting. On the other hand I dont want to lose any mass either through the process. What is the balance? Obviously once I dropped the weight I would get into a maintenance mode where I would be doing less cardio and much more weights.

Thanks for your input. John's site and the folks on this forum are great and have a lot to offer!

If I were you I would do 2 weights sessions (upper, lower) a week and take L-Glutamine to maintain what you have. Keep track of your diet and make sure you are eating the exact amount of calories needed to lose weight but not lose lean muscle mass. Do cardio in the mornings 4-5 times a week and that should be enough.

Its really a matter of opinon as to how much weights you want to do. You may not want to do any weights if you think you can get your diet spot on so you can just concentrate on cardio. I however like to keep my muscles conditioned to weight training even while I'm cutting.

How it helps,
