Ok, I have read the great debate of whether you should do cardio on a empty stomach... what about on lifting days? when should you eat your first meal?

Thanks,

The concensus seems to be that you have your first meal PRIOR to lifting, some even advocate 1 to 2 hours prior to your workout. I have begun incorporating this philosophy into my workouts. So far I dont really notice a big difference either way. I definitely do NOT eat prior to cardio in the morning, tho. See my sig for my results so far.

There is NO debate when it comes to lifting. You absolutely should eat prior to lifting. Around 1 hour prior would be ideal.

Yes - You need to have soem kind of significant caloric intake prior to your workout.

I used to eat 1/2 cup of oatmeal w/Extra Virgin Olive Oil an hour prior to my pre workout shake (which I have 15 minutes before my workout). I've recently switched this up (to allow me to get some more sleep) so that I just have my pre workout shake prior to my workout, followed by my post workout shake and oatmeal/evoo. So far, this is working very favorably for me.

I prefer to lift after my last meal. Burns off some of the stuff so I can go to bed a bit earlier.

How about this:

I get up at 3:00 am to have time to work out, before I go to work. Should I eat something RIGHT before I workout?? I cannot fathom getting up any earlier than that just to eat something.

Any opinions on this out there?
