Monster Thu, February 12th, 2004, 03:49 PM is it ok, or good to do this? like do the 12 min HIIT a few mins before you do your weight training? I think cardio might get you worn down. I'd want to put an much effort as possible into the weights. Razor Thu, February 12th, 2004, 03:58 PM Don't do cardio right before weights. If you feel like you have to do them on the same day, keep 8 hours between each exercise. corbint Thu, February 12th, 2004, 04:01 PM i do a light cardio, maybe 6 to 10 minutes at like 50 to 60% effort to warm up my body and get the blood flowing before i hit the weights. the goal is to conserve the explosive power for lifting, just warm up after my stretching routine. Jingo Thu, February 12th, 2004, 05:45 PM It is more important to be fresh and full of energy for lifting than for cardio, thus if you must do the two together, i would always do the lifting first followed by the cardio, you simply can't lift effectively on a tired body. As others have mentioned the better solution is to totally seperate them as doing the two together will hurt (but not totally negate) your muscle gains, but that isn't always possable for everyone. Racuerex Thu, February 12th, 2004, 06:25 PM well then im not getting johns way of doing it? did he seperate his too? because I was looking at his workout plan, which I am following...and for example, it says for today: Thursday: Weight training: quads, calves, hamstrings; Stationary bike or Stair climber, 12 minutes (HIIT) are they seperate workouts? Jingo Thu, February 12th, 2004, 06:48 PM John did cardio daily and he's said if he did it again he would do less cardio, remember John was learning as he went just like most of us are, he made mistakes too. in terms of preference it goes like this - Cardio on a different day to weights Cardio atleast 8 hours after/before weights Cardio straight after weights Weights straight after cardio No cardio. So while some people will say it's wrong or bad to do cardio before weights, if the alternative is to do no cardio, then it isn't wrong, it's just not optimal. But unless there's some reason why you can't switch the two around, i don't know of any benefits of doign cardio before weights in your gym session, there are however benefits to doing weights before cardio. Wop Thu, February 12th, 2004, 07:11 PM the goal is to conserve the explosive power for lifting, just warm up after my stretching routine. I also do a 5-10 minute warmup before lifting. Since I workout in the early morning, I find it gets my blood pumping and wakes me up a bit, allowing me to increase my intensity level. However, I usually do the cardio, then stretch. You don't want to be stretching cold muscles! So doing HIIT and Weights in the same day is a bad thing? I've just started to cut and thought that was a bit intense but with John's results I was willing to try it anyway. So don't do it in the same day? marcus Fri, February 13th, 2004, 09:22 AM So doing HIIT and Weights in the same day is a bad thing? Doing HIIT and weights on the same day is fine as long as you seperate them by 8 hours. Sometimes if I'm really busy I do them in the same workout, IMO the important thing is that you get them done. Its not like we're not professional athletes, we're just trying pass ourselves off as them :D Marcus :tucool: Sake Ninja Fri, February 13th, 2004, 01:29 PM So doing HIIT and Weights in the same day is a bad thing? I've just started to cut and thought that was a bit intense but with John's results I was willing to try it anyway. So don't do it in the same day? You do want to spread it out. If you can't get lifting in that same day (with the spread), do it tomorrow at some point, preferrably after you've eaten one or two meals. However, if you cannot get weights or cardio in the next couple of days, I'd say go ahead and lift after cardio. Doing it for small gains is better than not doing it at all, but I think the majority of people here committed to working out will find time in the next day to lift/cardio if they missed their previous day. Anyone tried cardio AFTER lifting? I've done this once, and it bothered me much less than the other way around. BiT Fri, February 13th, 2004, 07:31 PM Actually my workout looks kinda like this : HIIT : Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun - 23 mins AM Max-OT : Mon, Wed, Fri PM Should I do what john did EG : HIIT : Mon, Wed, Fri - 12 mins AM HIIT : Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun - 23 mins AM Max-OT : Mon, Wed, Fri PM or keep what I have been doing? StealthRapt0r Sat, February 14th, 2004, 12:45 AM if you want a good workout from HIIT how will you have energy for a good weightlifting workout i'd say one or the other or maybe at least 4 hours apart |
