View Full Version : How does everyone avoid Weekend Woes?
tinman1412 November 22nd, 2004, 05:04 PM Hi All,
I have a question for everyone. I don't have any problem eating clean on the weekdays, but once the weekend rolls around, I find it really hard to stick to my routine and end up overeating and ultimately eating non-clean foods. How does everyone avoid this or stick to their eating plan on the weekends.

easy. If you're not eating clean i suspect you're either getting delivery food or you're going out somewhere like Arbys or something.
Well if you're out driving around, just pull into the nearest supermarket, walk in, buy some fish or something like that...on your way up to the register pick up a can of veggies...proceed to checkout...go home and start cooking.
most of the times its cheaper (and better for you) to do that instead of walking into the nearest mcdonalds...and its DEFINETLY cheaper than getting delivery...no tip to worry about.
least thats what I do.

You should think about what makes you to eat clean on the weekdays.
Then apply that to the weekends.
In my case, it helps to wake up early and workout, then go to work and have my daily meals planned. I do the same ove the weekend but rather than going to work I do something different, like reading or programming or playing piano or whatever. The thing is to be busy.
For me, boredom would be the killer, but I don't allow it into my life.
Whenever you feel like eating junk, come around to the forum for half an hour, if you can, and read something.
Hope this helps, good luck! :tu:
PeteBDawg November 22nd, 2004, 06:27 PM I decreased the amount of cash I carried around. It's a reminder that I really shouldn't be impulsively going out to restaurants. That, and I make sure to work out in the early afternoon at the latest, to keep the momentum going. And I try not to keep cruddy food in the house - because even if I resist it during the weekdays, on the weekends, when I often have hours to spend at home, I tend to eat it.
itbeachgurl November 23rd, 2004, 06:30 AM I usually try to drink lots of water and fortuntaly for me I have a door that locks on my kitchen. So i only go in when i absolutly need to. And I make Saturday night my cheat night so I can look forward to it all day. :gl:
Acliff November 23rd, 2004, 07:20 AM I avoid weekend woes by going to work.
I actually find it harder during the week because I have lectures at university, because every day the lectures are on different times, and I'm busy with taekwondo training and such.
Weekends I work in a sony centre, so its fairly relaxed, I can eat when I need to, and it helps that theres 2 health food shops on either side. Reminds me of the healthy eating. And McDonalds and the other fast food shops are on the other side of the town centre :D
Bluestreak November 23rd, 2004, 08:22 AM a.) Drink more water.
b.) Get a cooler. Prep your food. When you leave the house and you know you'll be gone 2+ hours, bring your cooler packed with pre-cooked or pre-mixed food/shakes that are healthy. It takes very little effort (up front it seems like a pain, but once it's habit you won't even notice) and pays dividends down the road.

geokin November 23rd, 2004, 01:46 PM I seem to have the same problem. During the week I plan and all goes well, on the weekend i turn into a grazer. I am trying to set a to do list for the weekend to stop the grazing.

Chris November 23rd, 2004, 03:47 PM Hi All,
I have a question for everyone. I don't have any problem eating clean on the weekdays, but once the weekend rolls around, I find it really hard to stick to my routine and end up overeating and ultimately eating non-clean foods. For me, my trend towards overeating or binge eating comes from lack of activity, when i'm home and have absolutely nothing to do but sit there and watch televsion, I eat, and I get all of those nasty cravings.
So I try to get out of the house as much as possible when i'm starting to get that bored feeling, I grab a protein shake, leave the house and go do something, usually i'll head to the gym or see if any of my friends are free, i've noticed that even when I go out with my friends, even IF we go somewhere like Burger King or something which doesn't happen much, I still don't feel any incentive to pig out or eat anything bad, usually i'll just grab a diet coke or water, sit back and talk.
I think the key is, stay busy, it keeps your mind from thinking about junk food.
Hort November 23rd, 2004, 05:47 PM Willpower. Failing that, carry a photo of either 1) your goal image of bodytype or 2) your old fat self as a reminder why you don't do that any more.
mo0fer November 23rd, 2004, 11:20 PM I eat clean on the weekdays and eat a lot on the weekend.
It's only 2 days and you won't lose all the progress you made from the weekdays. Plus, I get so used to eating smaller meals and healthier meals that I can't eat as much as I think I could.
Jim November 24th, 2004, 10:05 AM I was a victim of eat anything during the weekends too.
Alcohol: I cut it down to just a few on the weekend. My tolerance went down and I enjoy myself just as much.
Food: I stopped buying takeaways when I'm with my friends at night and when I did get something, I wouldn't finish it. Got the cleanest I could get for a takeaway really and ate half of it. Problem solved, satisfied and not stuffed.
Like said above, it really is a lifestyle. You cant lead a double life from eating clean on weekdays and ruining it on weekends by eating 3000+ calories, it impacts you eventually and the hard work is no where near as good as it could have been, if that makes sense.
I stayed busy and got a job doing something I enjoy. I love nightclubs, so I got a job in one :) I work every saturday night unless I book it off in advance (rarely, only for huge gigs or a birthday or so, you get the idea). So I can't exactly ruin my diet for the week on a saturday night like I use too, unless you count a beer or 2 after work when we close.
TaxiTodd November 26th, 2004, 02:23 PM Just the oppisite for me, I eat clean on the weekdays, then fall back into not eating on the weekends. Friday & Saturday are very busy in the Taxi Cab. I have been packing a coller like Bluestreak says, it helps, but when I am rolling in the cab and people are flagging me down it can be difficult to stop and get the cooler out of the trunk! Sunday is a cheat day, although I don't go nuts.
kmfisher November 26th, 2004, 03:27 PM At a minimum, I try to eat clean 85% of the time. I eat 6 times per day, so there are 42 meals in my week. That means I can have roughly 6 cheat meals in a week if I want.
So, I can put them all on one day or spread them out. I don't worry about it so much. I have a habit of not eating enough on the weekends, so I don't have to worry about pigging out on calories. I also limit these cheat meals to at most 2 dinners during the week, and at most one lunch. Normally, Friday and Saturday night for the dinners, and sometimes during the week for lunch w/ work buds.
It keeps me sane to know that I don't worry about the food on Friday and Saturday nights, but that I'm good the rest of the week. I also count alcohol as a cheat meal.
jmcalla November 28th, 2004, 02:51 PM I agree with 5M. I incorparate making new recipes on saturday.
Friday night for me is now a early night. I might go out but come home early because I am so exhausted from work. I nibble on a couple of things if we go out but nothing major (least I don't think).
Saturday is my cooking day like I said. I do my errands, pay my bills, or go to something local. Depending where you live check what is going on in town that weekend like a bookfair, farmer's market etc. It is free and you get out of the house.
Sunday I have the TV on watching football. During this time I clean, do some laundry, iron my clothes and think about what I am going to do at work the next day so I do not stress when I am going to sleep.
