What should you eat after cardio ?

I'm assuming you're talking about 45-60 minute, 65-75% MHR cardio:

You can eat a pro/fat meal as soon as you're done. Timing really doesn't matter with a pro/fat meal because it doesn't hault lypolisis.

If you're gonna down a pro/carb meal, on the other hand, you might want to wait 40-45 minutes to let juice as much lypolisis as possible.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :tucool:

My best results have come if I have morning fasted-state cardio followed within 30~45 minutes by a protein/fat meal. Go heavy on the protein and light on the fat; about 4:1 ratio. I don't touch carbs until 2.5~3 hours after cardio.

I'm assuming he's asking what if you don't have the convenience to split cardio and weights by 8 hours? A lot of people do both back to back and still achieve results. I'd like to find out the answer to that question as well.

Let's see then, people say (not universal agreement, I know) best is cardio in the morning in a fasted state. Then they say stay away from carbs at night (again, this is the general trend). So if we now wait 3 hours after cardio before hitting the carbs that would mean concentrate the carbs intake of the whole day just in the middle. That doesn't sound balanced to me. The whole point of dividing your meals in several small ones is to avoid any insulin peaks!

At the end, I think the issue of post cardio meal is fine tunning. As long as you do your cardio and wait for an hour or so to have a meal (and don't be shy of carbs) you should take full advantage of the workout. I don't think the metabolism is very high one hour after cardio unless you do something like running 20 miles or a marathon.

I will welcome any correction to my points, since this is information I've been picking up here and there and I came up with those conclusions.

Could you give me some examples of pro/fat meals. :)

For a combo workout (weights then cardio), I'd eat a carbs + protein meal immediately afterwards. Your muscles really need the protein. Otherwise you could risk some catabolism. Especially if you do long cardio.

not to sure exactly, but i suppose whey + flax seed oil (or equivalent)

i was wondering about almonds or peanuts but i think they have a certian amount of carbs, can this be ignored in this case or should you stick to pure sources fats.
