Hey everyone, just started lifting again and looking to get some ideas on a new routine. I'm 290 6ft tall at 230lbs. Im looking for fat loss, so I guess that means I need to be lifting heavy? What exercises do you reccomend and how many sets and reps.

That means you need to keep your diet in check, it doesn't mean anything about what you do in the weight room.

I recommend sticking to a routine that you enjoy. Regardless of sets/reps, that's what you need to go for.

Diet and build metabolism with weights. The right way to go.
Heavy compound exercises. 1 to 2 sets, 8-12 reps. One Set!! Someone says, how can you suggest one set? If you use enough weight, you can't do more than one.
Squat
Straight-arm Pullover
Leg curl or stiff legged deadlift
Calf raise
Bench Press
Bent-arm Fly with DB
Bent over row
3 way lateral raise, side, front, bent-over
Overhead Press
Bicep curl
Tricep extension with DB
Crunch
