Hi, i'm in a cutting stage and eat alot of protein bars, as you know they have alot of fat in them including saturated, mostly i eat 2 of these as a meal replacement when i'm on the run, i probably do this 1 time a day, could this be hindering my weight loss? there is also quite a bit of sugar in some of them. thanks for your responses. one more thing, how do you guys get your pictures to turn out so well, im in a dorm room and my digi camera glares from the mirror, and the pictures never turn out bright enough :( thank you for reading.

Glare for the mirror can be dealt with by using a timer on the camera. I can't think of much else that's helpful though :(

Protein bars are good and I use them myself! I would worry more about the calories than the fat - although some do have high cholesterol. Some are low carb if you're bothered by the sugar (still has calories, but little in the way of blood sugar influence). I know I should eat something better, but I eat a detour bar every day. It's basically a chocholate bar with protein in it. I would be eating the Met-RX bars, which are awesome, but I can't find them cheaply, and Detours now I can get for about $1.60/piece.

This is where I get mine: http://labelinfo.nutritionexpress.com/Bar.aspx?Price=23.88&Msrp=33.48&Grp=&Usr=a17641100933200&Itm=C3-1670&Add=N

Works out to about $1.75 each.

I just started eating a Detour or U-Turn Bar after my workout. They don't taste too bad..

I did a small comparison myself, and I was much better off eating a few handfuls of cereal instead of a protein bar. Kashi Go Lean for the most protein, but even Kellogg's Vive has a fair amount of protein, and for the serving size, the price is about a quarter of a protein bar. I try to stay far, far away from protein bars, unless what I want is a chocolate bar with some protein in it.

Most bars are crap. Beef collagen, hidden sugar, mis-labeled, etc.

If you are cutting, I'd cut them out.

Just my opinion. I'd rather utilize a clean protein powder and healthy fats instead, as that is just as easy to take with you.

Example: whey protein isolate powder, just add water when u are ready to consume, and utilize a serving of almonds as your healthy fat source. Far better, no sugars, sugar alcohols (those are bad news) no mis-labeling, etc.

Like others have said stay away from bars, Just eat from clean protein sources and make sure you get some good fats in there with that protein.

I have some myoplex 'carb-sense' bars, but I only use them in an emergency (keep one in the purse in case there is nothing better to eat, stuck in traffic, etc). I also use them if I have a long meeting at work and need a meal in there somewhere - easy to sneak a cut up bar, not so easy to whip out the cottage cheese. :)

Other than that I avoid them - besides being not so healthy, they are durn pricey!
