I've thought about these for a while, ever since seeing them on TV. I love driving, and cars, but it is a shame that this technology is not going to take form as quickly as it otherwise could, because people like driving so much.

There are two huge benefits to this. Actually three:

1) Instead of having to drive, you could read/surf the net, etc. on the way to work. This would be just awesome.

2) Safety. Taking human error out of the equation a good, well proven program, could trounce humans' ability to avoid accidents.

3) SPEED! This is, for me, the biggest. Think about what happens when a light goes green. First car, then second, then third, then fourth. Do you know that with a computer handling it all, when the light goes green all cars could go at once. That would save GOBS AND BUCKETS of time in tight traffic. Heck, ultimately you could even remove traffic lights entirely, and have the computer server decide if a car should slow, or carry on, through an intersection (yes, like I mentioned, this has to be well written code). Moreover, highways would be far less congested. Gone is the two car length distance on the highway (that's with people tail gating). How's 3 inches sound? Also, no more 70mph speed limits. Of course, it kills gas to go fast, but that aside you could have these cars all in unison going much faster.

Faster speeds, little to no traffic congestion in many cases, take a nap while driving, less crashes every year. I can't wait!
