Still being fairly new to weight training I need some advice before I work out tonight.

My biceps are still killing me from Sunday's workout. I did Hammer curls and Dumbell curls for the first time. I know that I probably over did it, since it was all I could do, to complete the last 2-3 reps of each set.

My concern isn't that my biceps hurt, it is about working out tonight with them hurting.

My routine for tonight (not in order) is:
Standing Side Lateral Raises (Dumbbells)
Military Press (Machine)
Triceps Pulldown
Triceps Extension
Bent Over Side Lateral Raises (Dumbbells)
Front Raises (Dumbbells)

I know that my routine tonight is shoulders, traps and triceps, but I also realize that in some of these, the bicep will be involved. My complete bicep, not just the part that flexes, but also the part that goes below the elbow hurts.

Let me know if you believe if it safe to workout and any signs I should look for when I work out.

I personally don't let soreness stop me from working out, but I never get sore to the point where it's "painful" except in my legs, and it's always gone by the next leg workout.

Chances are it would be fine, but if you think it would inhibit tonight's workout, move everything back a day.

In what of these exercises would the biceps be involved to any extent?

Thanks for the reply karatetricker. I don't have the option of delaying my workout for one day. I have to be at work at 7:30 am Wednesday and won't be back home until 1:00 am Thursday morning. I either have to do it, or junk it until next week.

I guess my major concern is not hurting something more seriously. I guess I start my workout and just see how it goes. Who knows, that might just be what the doctor ordered.

Do 5 minutes of warm up cardio to get your blood going, and make sure to do light warm up sets for your exercises. That should help loosen your arms up and lessen the soreness some.

None of those excersizes are hard at all on the biceps.

Thanks for the replies.

Being new to this stuff, I guess I have a hard time seeing how things like military press, front raises and side lateral raises can't help but involve your biceps. That is why I am glad there are so many people on this site ready to help those of us that are lacking the proper information.

Since I am doing the dumbbell exercises for really the first time, I am concentrating hard of my form.

Joe, there are two types of pain. There's the pain from muscle soreness (DOMS) and the pain from an injury. As a general rule, don't let muscle soreness slow you down. I find that moving the muscles helps to reduce the soreness. On the other hand, never try to work through an injury as there's a good chance you can only make it worse.

joe, you might want to look into purchasing a book called "The Book of Muscle"

It's awesome and will really show you what muscles work, and explain why. Plus, it has 18 months of workouts that go from challenging to downright crazy.

Thanks for the help.

ThatOldGuy: I wasn't sure what type of pain it was, but as I warmed up last night, and than started my routine, my biceps started feeling better and better. My left bicep is still somewhat sore, but I also know that I really worked them out on Sunday.

kmfisher: I saw that book, but haven't really looked through it. I guess I will do that this weekend and probably buy it. Thanks.
