View Full Version : Almost passed out this morning

I think I just over-exerted myself this morning, but here's what happened. I lifted this morning. Nothing out of the ordinary. I did my usual circuit on a Hoist Fitness machine that the apartment complex has. I do 12 reps at each station; vertical bench, fly, leg extension, preacher curl and lat pulldown. I go through this circuit 4 times total and it takes me about 40 minutes. I felt fine afterwards and walked back to my aparment. I took off my jacket, shirt and then noticed my heart rate began increasing and beating harder. I started feeling a little light-headed, then dizzy, so I sat down on the floor. The dizzyness got worse so I layed on the floor and stretched out my arms and legs. By this time I'm wondering if I'm going to end up like ODB. I feel completely awful and begin feeling like I want to vomit. I grab a shirt that's next to me and vomit into it. I know I need to get up and go to the bathroom. I vomit enroute and once I get to the bathroom. I feel terrible and I lay down on the bathroom floor. My body begins sweating profusely. It's as if someone poured a bucket of water on me; I'm soaked. I continued laying there for several minutes and finally got up.

So, what happened? Did I just overwork myself?

You could just have a virus of some sort. Are you under a lot of stress for some reason? Did you get enough sleep last night? I often feel nauseated and woozy after a night with too little sleep.

Or maybe you were dehydrated, maybe you overtrained, or maybe you were having nutritional problems.

By this time I'm wondering if I'm going to end up like ODB.

Hey, man, there's no need to be that gangsta about your fitness. If Big Baby Jesus a.k.a. Dirt McGirk is looking down on us now, I don't think he'd want you to be feeling sick. Take some time off, if you start feeling like this again.

and R.I.P. O.D.B.

Thats how fast food poisoning hit me. And almost the same symptoms - except, I laid down on my couch.

I'd eaten out later in the evening and when I woke up in the morning, I got hit just like you described.

I'm pouring out a 40 of All The Whey for ya, man.

I had this happen when I started seriously doing leg work. It was so taxing (and I wasn't used to it) that my body would be in shock by the end of the workout. My guess is that you worked out more intensely than you normally do... is that true? If so, you may want to slowly ramp up the intensity.

Not to be gross either, but what did you eat before you worked out? Sometimes working out with food in the stomach makes me feel really sick afterwards. My stomach especially doesn't like pill things before a workout, like a multivitamin or whatever.

That sounds exactly like food poisoning hitting you. Maybe you should think about what you ate the night before.

Also sounds like it could be a bad blood sugar rush...

maybe you should have cooled down. your heart rate would have been elevated from the work out. completely stopping can cause blood pressure to rise. i dont know if a rapid incease in blood pressure can make you sick like that but regardless you should be doing some type of cool down. it could be the source of the problem.

If that happened to me, I would see my doctor. I noticed you haven't returned to response, hope it went away.

I had something similar happen to me once after a tough night at TKD. I felt dizzy, anxious, and nauseous. I didn't get to the vomiting phase, but I probably would have if I had not sat down, cooled off and drank some water. It resolved itself after about 15 minutes.

The symptoms point towards heat exhaustion. http://www.southernhighrollers.com/tips/articles/heat_safety.htm
