Any weight loss resulting from being in a sauna is just water weight that you'll replace when you re-hydrate yourself by drinking water. :gl: daveo February 11th, 2004, 08:39 PM Any weight loss resulting from being in a sauna is just water weight that you'll replace when you re-hydrate yourself by drinking water. Close, but not 100%. Getting in the sauna will get water out of you, and you'll lose water weight. Of course you'll gain it back with that big drink you take on the way out... BUT along with the water (through sweat) comes salt (sodium), that's why sweat tastes salty. SO, if you stay in long enough (with enough water to keep drinking) so that your sweat doesn't taste salty, you'll be better off because... Salt holds on to water and helps you retain water weight. So if a lot of the salt is gone (because you just sweated it out) then the water you consume won't bind to anything, and will pass through you. From what I read (on bodybuilding.com ('http://www.bodybuilding.com')) this is an advanced trick for pre-show prep. But if you're looking for a reason to get in the sauna, there ya go! Of course you'll need to take a ton of water in with you to drink while you sweat. Getting dehydrated in the sauna is a VERY BAD THING :gl: |
