I'm just curious about the reason for shaving. Andre C Man November 14th, 2004, 05:37 PM Do you compete in bodybuilding? I'm just curious about the reason for shaving. Exactly. Why do you want to go hairless? It's one thing if it's for a competition, but another thing if you want to be just another metrosexual. John Stone November 14th, 2004, 06:56 PM Exactly. Why do you want to go hairless? It's one thing if it's for a competition, but another thing if you want to be just another metrosexual. Grow up. SwoleCat November 14th, 2004, 07:45 PM I usually use an M3 on the arms, chest, stomach area with shaving cream. Take your time and you won't get the ingrowns. For what appears on the back, I use a cream and have the wife apply it. Works well. Waxing is good too, it's just a matter of preference. The metrosexual comment is juvenille though, you'd be amazed how many fitness enthusiasts go hairless. If you wish to show of your body/hard work, it's almost a must. ~SC~ 1FastGTX November 14th, 2004, 07:52 PM Get the new M3 Power (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00024C110/qid=1100476293/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-3362689-7367314?v=glance&s=hpc&n=507846). It's incredible! I never get ingrown hairs anymore. Used to get them on my arms but not when I use this thing. The price is up there especially if you go through a lot of cartridges (I don't; not very hairy to begin with), but it really works well. JMR November 14th, 2004, 08:58 PM As a guy with a lot of very coarse hair, I've found absolutely nothing that prevents ingrown hairs... nothing... I've shaved with everything. I've waxed. I've used the creams. If your hair is coarse and curly then it's gonna happen. Just follow the usual recommended procedure for shaving your face to do the rest of ya. Clip it down short first before shaving. I don't even try to to shave anymore. I just clip it down short every few months. Bluestreak November 14th, 2004, 08:59 PM I've been mistaken for Sasquatch with my shirt off. First, get a regular old barber style hair trimmer (they're cheap - like $10). Make sure it has guards with it. Use a No. 1 guard and trim as much body hair as you wish to. I trim everything above my legs starting at the top of the thigh. It takes absolutely no time to get used. A bonus was discovering how much more defined I was after I'd done it. Using a No. 1 is a bit more practical for me. I have no plans to competitively body build and the surface area I'd have to keep up with seems a bit daunting to me personally. Perhaps when I hit 8% body fat I'll shave to see what it all looks like put together, but until then... I'll be trimming. It's quick, easy, practical and you can, if you're flexible enough, even trim your back yourself. Stacemranger November 14th, 2004, 11:30 PM I agree with Bluestreak. I do exactly what he does and I have a very hairy chest(which is all I shave, except for my armpits). Works just fine. I get an ingrown hair every now and then, but not too often. Skoorb November 15th, 2004, 09:02 AM If the hair is too long, start with electric trimmers. Then you can finish off with a cheapy regular razor. I've never had ingrown hairs when I've done this, although some people do. escher November 15th, 2004, 09:53 AM I shave my chest and abdomen area every couple days with a M3. I think your skin gets used to it, so you dont have as many ingrown hairs as in the beginning. I get rid of it, just because I hate it, and it looks terrible when it is all in. Looks a lot cleaner! chigum November 15th, 2004, 02:13 PM IVE READ ALL THE COMMENTS AND THANK YOU ALL , YES THERE IS SOME SAD PEOPLE WHO DONT UNDERSTAND SOME THING,, I HAVE BEEN WORKING OUT FOR 5 MONTHS NOW, I SHAVED MY CHEST YESTERDAY AND WOW , REALLY IMPRESSED SO ILL KEEP AT THE SHAVING TO SE IF IT GETS ANY EASIER, THANKS i have forgoten about the capitals sorry could not type the whole thing again soz guys inurb November 15th, 2004, 10:28 PM I do like bluestreak does...I call it manscaping. Just get a bread trimmer and set the guard to 1 and go to town on your chest and stomach area. The hair left is short and you can see the definition of your muscles much clearer then when someone has a hairy chest. I take the guard off for my arms and shoulders. Thing is I haven't touched my forerarms cause I feel a little too scared to go that far for some reason. Wilderbeast November 16th, 2004, 05:30 AM Another good reason to shave your chest is the heart rate monitors work better without a piece of carpet in the way. Widers Torkm November 16th, 2004, 08:42 AM I would wax, but I cant do it properly. I once started by doing my shoulders (Im quite hairy) and I got half way down my chest and it got to hard so I gave up. I couldnt go to the Aquatic Centre for months... I dont like shaving much since I nick myself 95% of the time. Using a bread trimmer works well though. Devery December 12th, 2004, 09:45 PM I have shaved my body hair in the past and liked the look/feel, but my wife would get all pissy and say it was gay and I don't know if she said this to try to put me down or if she really didn't like it that much. Personally, I like it, but she seems to hate it. Anybody else in this boat? See attached pic with smooth forearms... 1FastGTX December 13th, 2004, 12:50 AM I have shaved my body hair in the past and liked the look/feel, but my wife would get all pissy and say it was gay and I don't know if she said this to try to put me down or if she really didn't like it that much. Personally, I like it, but she seems to hate it. Anybody else in this boat? See attached pic with smooth forearms... My girlfriend likes my arms and chest to be shaved, as well as my face too hehehe. When I was really low in bodyfat and looking really ripped I tried shaving my legs. Personally I thought it looked kinda neat cause my legs looked absolutely enormous (I remember doing leg presses and thinking "woah my legs look huge"), but she hated it. She said it looked feminine and she didn't like rubbing her leg on mine and having it feel all smooth. Naytch December 13th, 2004, 02:38 AM My girlfriend actually likes my chest hairy! I used to shave it but now I just trim it with clippers. We compromised - I wouldn't shave my chest if she would wax my back. It sucks being hairy, so much work! TheRyanator December 13th, 2004, 12:16 PM My wife was not to fond of the idea of shaving at first...as I said...AT FIRST. I shaved the arms and chest, she became a fan of the chest being smooth, but likes the hairy arms...I thought that would look goofy, like it needed to be all or nothing, but it really looks alright and she loves the smooth chest. Bluestreak December 13th, 2004, 01:01 PM It's a matter of compromise when a spouse/SO doesn't like something that makes you feel more comfortable with yourself. Perhaps that's the issue itself - you're feeling more comfortable with yourself when your spouse/SO hasn't made any positive changes. My wife was just fine with my Missing Link-style body hair, and was hesitant about me changing that, but I believe it was just a matter of her getting used to it. You know, that whole "people don't like change" type of thing. After six months doing it... now she's just fine with it. Do what's right for you - you live in your body, not your spouse. Body hair really is trivial and should not be the cause of relationship-angst. If it does, I think your problems run much deeper... -R Devery December 13th, 2004, 11:55 PM I think this is the best advice I have heard in awhile...thanks Bluestreak. Well said. She likes the look of my chest clean shaven, its when it starts to grow back that she has a problem. The stubble hurts her and she makes me wear a t-shirt to bed. So I don't shave it very often but I trim every other week. That way we are both happy! |
